The principal character is called Amy Fleming, daugther of Tim Fleming and Marion Barlett.
She has a special gift as her mather had, she can connect with the horses and solve their problems. She took part of an accident in which her mother died, trying to save a horse called Spartan. After this, she developed a strong conection with this horse, since they were going through the same situation after her mother died. They needed each other. Her best friend, is called Soraya Martin, who works in a restaurant called Maggie's. In the episodes, you can see that Amy has a strong friendship with Ty Borden, later,they fell in love when they both had relationships, (Amy with Caleb O'dell, Ty with Kit Baley) they go through some problems ,but finally he becomes her boyfriend. ( 3rd and 4th season)Ty Borden is a 17 year old teenager who had a bad childhood with his step father. Later, he took revenge, so he was taken to jail. Then, his probation officer sends him to Heartland, where he starts working and ride's a horse for the fist time.
There, he meets Amy Fleming, and they become good friends. He fells in love with her, but when he kisses her for the first time he escapes to visit his father without telling her. After breaking Amy's heart, when he returns, things had changed, Amy new Caleb, and didn't want to even see Ty.
One day, they had to go to feed some horses some kilometers away from Heartland, and it starts to snow, so they have to spend a day in a fishing house, where they fix their problems and they become a couple.
Jack Barlett is Amy's grandfather. He's 65 years old and lives in heartland.
He dislikes Tim Fleming, his daughter´s ex husband, after he divorced her.
His girlfriend, is called Lisa, in the end of season 3, he decides to marry her, she accepts but they leave things as they were because Lou Fleming, his granddaughter was getting married too.
Lou Fleming is 25 years old (Amy's sister) and is married to Peter Morris, a petrol company runner. They knew each other by chat, then they meet when his company is looking for petrol in their ranch.
When they officially meet for a date, Lou couldn't believe what her eyes had seen. They fell in love and get married in the 3rd season.
Mallory Wells is a girl who lives in Heartland. She is always getting into other people's problems. She can be too talkative but all people in Heartland love her as part of their family.
Later, she has decisions to make, like to choose between Badger, and Jake who has always been at her side.
Badger is a teenager who has had some behaviour and family problems, he has the same probation officer as Ty had. Ty and him had gone through similar situations, so Ty's in a way trying to help him.
Caleb Odell works in Heartland too. He takes part on rodeo competitions. He is married to Ashley Stanton. Ashley's mother, Val Stanton , totally desagrees with them. She isn't keen on the idea on getting married so young, and neither on her daughter´s idea of leaving high school. Although, most of the times they get to an agreement, which helps her be in good terms with them.
Ashley and Caleb have economic problems, that's why Caleb starts working at Heartland, and Ashley starts working in Maggie's as Soraya does.
Scott Cardinal is always ready to help Heartland horses. He had a relationship with Lou before she met Peter.
These two characters became really good friends; Scott is Lou's true friend who keeps her up when she is sad or angry.
